Gnostic Texts

Many pseudograph texts are attributed to Gnostic writers who where working on convincing believers or Christians to follow their narrative. However when examined, we find that the gnostic texts and theology (heresy) is a completely different belief system, complete with a different creation story, different god and different gospel. Early Church Fathers such as Ignatius of Antioch and Clement strictly opposed their teachings.

The Gnostics and their beliefs already existed during the time of the Apostles, and their heretical beliefs where already being disputed within the gospels in the Pauline letters (1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus). This leads many scholars to conclude, along with other lines of evidence, that these beliefs existed in an earlier context as pagan beliefs mixed with Christianity, namely, from Hermeticism. Hermeticism has been found to be an earlier form of Gnosticism, from which many of the pagan and Greek philosophical beliefs derived or visa-versa.

Nag Hammadi Library

Once the Nag Hammadi Library was discovered, many additional gnostic books where found to confirm and expound on the Gnostics beliefs. Some claim that Gnosticism was a just a separate branch of Christianity, however these texts are evidence of a completely separate group that created counterfeit texts after the first century. These texts are simply pseudepigrapha texts attempting to claim authorship from the original Apostles.
