Mt Hermon Stele

The Stele from the Top of Mount Hermon - The Fallen Ones

Date of Document: Est. 3rd to 8th century b.c.

Location - Mt. Hermon Israel

Sir Charles Warren, British explorer, came across a sacred rectangular building made of hewn stone blocks, located at Qasr Antar, the highest temple in the ancient world (9,232 ft. or 2,814 m. above sea level In 1969 on the summit of Mt. Hermon, in Israel. Within the temple, he discovered a limestone stele which could be the only extra-biblical and pagan memorial of Satan’s actual command to the Sons of God to create a hybrid race

Translation

The translation of the stele has come with much controversy, however there are various renditions and the Greek text can be studied for anyone to study.

The British Museum’s translation, (written on the base of the inscription):

“Hence by order of the [ ] God [ ] [], those who do not take the oath.”

Warren and Nickelsburg’s parallel translation:

Κατά κέλευσιν θεού μεγίστου κ[αι] άγιου οι ομνύοντες εντεύθεν

According to the command of the great a[nd] holy God, those who take an oath [proceed] from here.

Line by Line Translation:

1. Κατά  [kata]: according to

2. Κέλευσιν [keleusin]: command

3. Θεού [theou]: of the god (genitive)

4. Μεγίστου [megistou]: Greatness personified (genitive)

5. Βο [bo]: uncertain, possibly a prefix for ox

6. βατιου (Βατιοu): epithet (genitive)

7. ου [ou]: where

8. ομνύοντες [omnuontes]: those swearing an oath

9. εντεύθεν [enteuthen]: [going] from here

Correlation to Biblical Text

Depending on the translation, this directly correlates to the text found in the book of Enoch, and the account of the sons of god that came to earth to take wives among the daughters of men.

3. And now to you, O you holy one of heaven, the souls of men complain, saying, Obtain Justice for us …

6. Samyaza also has taught sorcery, to whom you have  given authority over those who are associated with him. They have gone together to the daughters of men; have lain with them; have become polluted;

15 To Michael likewise the Lord said, Go and announce his crime to Samyaza

- 1 Enoch 9:3, 6, 10:15

All this correlates to the divine 'sons of god' view of Genesis chapter 6.

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. - Genesis 6.1-2
